The Session invites you to join the UPCSA Common Service on Sunday – NO Service at St. Columba’s. Watch on Facebook or UPCSA website.
The UPCSA 2021 General Assembly will be hosted from tomorrow 26th June to Wednesday 30th June in Pietermaritzburg. The Rt Rev Peter Langerman from Durbanville Presbyterian (our current Moderator who served 3 years) will be handing over to the new incoming Moderator, the Rev Sipho Mtetwa from the Drakensberg Presbyterian Church. Our own minister (Rev Morrison) studied with the new Moderator at the Fed Seminary many years ago in Pietermaritzburg, and he is well known to some of us in our congregation.
The opening service of the General Assembly will be held tomorrow live from Pietermaritzburg in KZN commencing at 11h00 and we invite all members to watch and partake as the new Moderator of the UPCSA is inducted.
Further, on Sunday morning at 09h00, we will have a denomination-wide group worship service, live from the General Assembly in Pietermaritzburg, broadcast on the UPCSA Facebook site, zoom platforms, and other mediums to all our denominations and Ecumenical Delegates from other denominations, and around the world; for example, the Church of Scotland and the PCSA in the US, who will be part of our Assembly. Your are invited to watch the Sunday morning service too streamed live on the UPCSA Facebook page.
There is also a special insert in the services where we will remember all our Ministers and Elders, and members that we are aware of, who have passed away from COVID over the past year.
If you miss any of these services, they will remain on the UPCSA Facebook page.

Please uphold our General Assembly and denomination in your prayers. A normal General Assembly consists of 160 Ministers and Elders in one central venue, and for the first time in our denominations history, we are hosting a virtual assembly, with only the top 5 Executive of the Church at the venue (socially distanced) with the local Presbytery, Drafting Teams and Head Office Staff of the UPCSA. The other 140 commissioners, and over 100 visitors, will join via the zoom platform live each day.
St Columba’s Hatfield has representation in 2 of the top 5 of the Executive Team of the UPCSA.
The team of 24 are busy travelling down at the moment by car from JHB and the Zimbabwe, Zambia and CT team will be flying in later this afternoon into PMB and DBN respectively.
Please pray for safe travels, and uphold the General Assembly in your prayers whilst the Assembly is in sitting over the next 5 days. We have asked congregations around the country to be constantly in prayer over this time, as important decisions are discussed and made regarding our denomination and congregations.
