Dear Compassionate Saints of Columba,
The Scriptures say, in Colossians 3: 12 (NIV)
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion.”
What a lovely turn of phrase, “clothe yourselves with compassion.”
Most folks feel they want to dress up for the worship Service. Righto! Nothing wrong with that. Looking good; feeling good; worshipping good. As long as dressing up does not become a way to show others up or of false piety.
The Apostle directs us to “clothe ourselves with compassion” and to wear that which matches who we are in Christ. The writer is concerned that what we put on not be a betrayal of what we claim to possess: compassion. Compassion is the standard dress of the faithful.
God bless you and those whom you love!
